Record review: Kick To Kill – ‘Black Kisses’ [Flowers In the Dustbin]

A taste of the psychedelic Orient awaits you in the form of ‘Black Kisses’ by Kick To Kill, Egyptian modes, bells lacking polish and gorgeous distorted… everything!

‘Black Kisses’ is the amalgamation of all these elements combined with muttered, misheard vocals.

Searing, soaring melodies throw their colourful paint all over the canvas, the result is a messy, almost drunk cohesion barely holding it all together.

It’s rough and ready, natural and organic, everything it contains works together with each other effortlessly, almost in spite of each other; it’s a great modern take on loud, in your face, rock.

There’s subtleties and layers that can be pulled apart upon each repeated listen, that’s there’s something for everyone to get lost and dissolve into.

Kick To Kill show that there is more to rock music than being big, dumb and loud.
