‘Gun’ is the third ecstatically received single in a row from the Glaswegian electro-pop trio, whose consistency and accessibility marks them out as strong contenders for the most anticipated Scottish album this year.
Lyrically ‘Gun’ sees Lauren Mayberry out for revenge, addressing her victim she sings “finally we agree / no place for promises here…I’ll be a gun and it’s you I’ll come for”.
While music blogs seems to have anointed them untouchable it’s important to note that ‘Gun’ is hardly a gritty reimagining of their sound – these lyrics are still attached to a tune which screams summer festival singalong thanks to its warm production and simple bass.
Out on July 7th ‘Gun’ might well be the track that gives CHVRCHES the chart placing to match their hype.
