A Wayward Mirror is the new album to be released from enigmatic four-piece, Errant Boy.
10 tracks, each with their own stamp of individuality and mystery, altogether forming a creative and curious album.
On first listen opener, ‘Black Dress, Black Cab’ seems eccentric and even unsettling, however this style continues to appear throughout the album.
‘Hey Columbus’ is more stripped back and flows well bringing forward a softer and calmer sound.
Tracks such as ‘The Night Dilates’ and ‘King Myopia’ also convey different sides to Errant Boy’s style by experimenting with more acoustic sounds while maintaining their distinct eccentricity.
Errant Boy also succeed in conveying a dark and intense vibe within certain tracks, which contrast directly with the acoustic styles present within the album; ‘Monochrome’, ‘Burning Chair’ and even the opening track ‘Black Dress, Black Cab’ are examples of this, where heavier and heightened sounds are present within the album.
‘Burning Chair’ contains dark and cryptic lyrics, conveying the band’s ability to tell a powerful story within one of their deeper tracks, which focuses a great deal on the lyrics to depict a scene.
Closer ‘Endgame’ mixes together the main aspects of the album within one track; the lyrics, again, depict a dark scenario (“the endgame is coming/ he wont tell her cause she knows”) and there is a raw and gritty sound, which accompanies this well.
Errant Boy’s frontman Sean Ormsby’s possesses a very distinct and unmistakable vocal style, which contributes a great deal to their personal style.
A Wayward Mirror succeeds in portraying the band’s varying musical ability, by combining more stripped down tracks alongside raw and intense tracks.
