Built To Spill, Disco Doom at The Art School, 27/11/15

Tonight Glasgow is treated to a rare site, a performance from alt rock legends, Built To Spill.

Disco Doom (7 of 10)

To start the evening, a very small number of early arriving fans are treated to a set by Swiss indie outfit, Disco Doom.

Despite playing to a crowd so small it feels a little like a soundcheck, the group doesn’t hold back.

With their set up of vintage amps behind them they pump out a huge wall of 80’s style indie fuzz.

With a sound that brings to mind acts like Dinosaur Jr and My Bloody Valentine, as well as doom legends Earth, it’s a shame so many Built To Spill fans passed up the opportunity to see such a band.

The Art School starts to pack out ‘cause of course, getting to see Built To Spill isn’t your standard Friday night and an opportunity that many fans would not pass up the opportunity to witness.

Over the course of their 90 minute set, the band waste little time with stage banter, but instead work through songs from their 23 year, eight album career.

With a setlist leaning not just heavily on their new album Untethered Moon, but also leaning extremely heavily on fan favorite, 1999’s Keep It Like A Secret.

The band are tight, frontman, Doug Martsch’s soft voice fills The Art School hall, the drums and bass are locked in and the two guitars feed off each other perfectly.

The band’s performance is on point and very impressive, but perhaps falls slightly short by relying to heavily on guitar solos, with some being extended longer than the recorded versions.

Overall, an extremely impressive performance from both bands, for the many who’d waited many years to see Built To Spill, I think it was worth the wait.
