Ravechild meets Tiny Moving Parts

Walking into Stereo we follow the stairs down and around the corner, past Ian Farmer from Modern Baseball casually chatting, beyond the merchandise stand – being watched by members of Into it. Over it. – and into the main room full of enthusiastic punk rock fans, charged with the buzz of what’s to come.

The night is kicked off by Tiny Moving Parts who pump up the crowd and get the whole room singing along to popular numbers ‘Sundress’ and ‘Dakota’, among many more.

Although this is the beginning of the show, I had the pleasure of meeting the band earlier in the day.

In a somewhat unconventional setting I met with TMP outside of the venue door to ask them a few questions about their tour so far.

All three guys come across really grounded and friendly making it feel more like an informal chat between friends than an interview, as they laughed and joke.

RC: So how’s the European tour going? What’s been your favourite show so far?

Dylan Mattheisen: “It’s been great, we’ve really enjoyed it. Last night in Leeds was probably one of the best, it was a really good crowd and we had a lot of fun”

RC: I remember Modern Baseball played a gig there last year, have you enjoyed touring with them and Into it. Over it.?

Matthew Chevalier: “Yeah of course! We all get on so well that we know no matter where we’re playing or what the crowd is like we’ll always have a great night”.

DM: “Definitely, we love the other bands so much; we always have so much fun with them!”

RC: It’s great that you’re all so close, we all really enjoyed your collaboration with Old Gray last year, can we expect anything like that with Into it. Over it. or Modern Baseball?

DM: “We’ve been so busy with the tour we haven’t really had that much time to actually play together, we haven’t spoken to them about that it would be fun though!”

RC: Punk/ math rock is quite a niche genre, who first got you into playing that kind of music?

Billy Chevalier: “Like a lot of punk-rock fans our age Blink 182 had a big influence on us but we went through a lot of different phases listening to different bands and tried to make something of our own that we liked”.

RC: Do you think the fact that you’re all related gives you a better dynamic as a band and cause’s less arguing or is it the opposite?

BC: “no it’s definitely a good thing, we spend so much time together anyway that we’re all so close which makes it really easy for us to work together”

RC: As the tour comes to an end, do you have any plans for the immediate future? Any new material we can look forward to?

BC: “More of the same hopefully, we’re really enjoying what we’re doing right now and we’d like to be doing it for a long time to come!”

DM: “We’re always working on something; we’ve been trying out some new things but nothing official just yet”

RC: Finally as the tour comes to an end, what’s one thing that you won’t miss about being on the road?

BC: “Not Showering. I definitely won’t miss not being able to shower.”
