Coming at us billed as a ‘unique blend of indie and funk’ it would be remiss not to note that there is a fairly long lineage of other Scottish bands who’ve trod the self same boards.
From Orange Juice and even Aztec Camera all the way through to modern groovers like Franz Ferdinand – via slightly less auspicious side roads like Hipsway – it’s been fertile ground: a bit of moody guitary stuff with some added wriggle for the dancefloor – sums up Scotland in many ways.
That minor gripe aside, is it any good?
Yes, it’s not bad – and a more than decent effort for such a young band; formed in 2013.
Across all five tracks there’s shiny and melodic guitars and relatively speaking a pretty sunny disposition about it all: if it has indie elements at all it’s certainly the cheerier end of the spectrum.
There’s perhaps a slight dearth of personality and yes, that word, unique-ness; it feels like a band finding its feet and yet to stamp out a singular identity.
It’ll make you nod along and ‘Glass Until Tomorrow’ certainly brought a smile and dreams of a bouncy summer to come; but overall it needs more oomph… more je ne sais quoi.
Promising… time to cut loose, boys, and go for it.
