Luminous Monsters – On Rubied Talons

Luminous Monsters, purveyor of fine suspense-filled sound-selections, the perfect accompaniment to a night of tantric rituals, esoteric initiations, conjurations, divinations, and D&D sessions.

We have for example the initial sonic-summoning ‘Kundalini Engine’, a sinister pseudo-Indonesian gamelan, slowly, near glacially accompanied by a drone n drill-scape of increasing intensities, until, finally, our chakras are revved up with the power of seven billion combined spines.

Then there’s ‘Tears of the Shoggoth’, a rare opportunity to see a shoggoth in its weaker, more intimate and fragile moments, made up of arabesque guitar-lines lurching in and out of tangled string-webs.

‘Coils of the Doxic Host’ is pure drone-minimalism, single sine wave frequencies and sustained bass, and ‘Of Smoke and Sinew’ gives us more mental-orientalism.

Finally, and triumphantly, ‘Wrath of the Tyrant Sun’ brings the album to a heady ending of all-out noise war, the sound of our fragile planet engulfed by an ever-growing red giant.

All in all, this is a fine slice of dark psychedelia; music to charge your sigils to, most definitely, but just be careful what you wish for…
