Hailing from Perth, Bones on Show (aka Matthew Wood) is now based in Glasgow and has just released his debut single, ‘Haunting’.
‘Haunting’ is simple in structure, it is based around a finger style guitar riff that makes the foundation of the track.
This melody is wonderfully crafted and it is easy to see why Wood draws on Andy McKee as his influences.
We see this melody feature variations that are beautifully crafted and interweave with the original several times throughout the track, a delight to listen to and always makes the track an interesting listen no matter how many times you return to it.
Wood also possesses a unique singing style that could only be likened to David Jakes (Lonely The Brave).
Wood’s voice is a wonderful accompaniment to the acoustic guitar and coincidently, the best word to describe them to together is that they create a haunting and eminence presence.
The only criticism is that Wood’s singing technique may not sit right with everyone, the pronunciation of his lyrics is difficult to make out, hindering the power they might have other wise.
Apart from this ‘Haunting’ is a great debut from Bones On Show and should raise a few eyebrows locally; hopefully we see greater things to come from Wood.
