Today’s news featuring Cry Parrot, We Were Promised Jetpacks and more

Right I’m back so let’s get this rolling again, I’m sure there’s been a shit load of news I have missed simply cos I wasn’t here but here’s some of the stuff that has been brought to my attention while I’ve been away.

 

Important news regarding the Cry Parrot and Tracer Trails event Music is the Music Language, it has had a change of date due to some venue logistical issue it will now take place on September 3-4. Unfortunately due to the date changes Gummy Stumps and Vars of Litchi have had to pull out but we are assured there is much more to be announced. Early bird tickets are available to the end of July at £8.

Talking of Cry Parrot they are also doing a wee fundraiser down at Sleazy’s on July 23. The event will feature DJ sets from Fielding himself, Wavy Gravy, Double Fun DJs, John Petrie and DJ Cunneen with all funds going to future events and ventures. More details here.

We Were Promised Jetpacks have a new album on the way, it’s called The Pit of the Stomach and is out on October 3, there’s a wee preview track available on their site. Speaking of Jetpacks Adam Thompson is supporting Courtney Marie Andrews with Panda Su at The Captain’s on August 30.

Brain Burner is back! The Liquid Ship’s noise restrictions have been lifted and we’re back on track to having every second Sunday filled with noise. Here’s the first one back, it features Uzuruzu, Falconry, Neil A. Simpson, Boom Edan, Now Wakes the Sea. It’s on August 14 and as before it’s free, more details here.

French Wives have been thrown onto the Wickerman line up, it’s shaping up quite nicely now. In other festival news We Were Promised Jetpacks, The Phantom Band, Bronto Skylift and Carnivores have been added to the Belladrum line up.

Homework are looking to do a/some house/flat gig(s), interesting in hosting something, look here.

Will Hanson is currently in the studio recording his album at Chemikal Underground Studio and release dates are now available for this, the single, ‘Deathbed Conversation’/’The View From Ebury Bridge’, is out on August 1 will the full release following on August 22. Listen to his EP here:

In terms of gigs, there’s another Redwings show happening tomorrow, this one’s at the The Captain’s. I haven’t been to see these guys yet but will look to be checking this out, support comes from Thula Borah and The Clock. £3, 8pm. More details here. Little Kicks and Fridge Magnets are play The Captain’s on Saturday, more details here.

Wounded Knee are doing a set at Mono on July 19, should be a wonderful wee occasion. Pensioner, Mondegreen & Pinky Suavo have a gig on down at The Captain’s, check her for details.
