What do you get when you grind up sixties surf rock with eighties retro video games? Well take a whiff of Honey and the Herbs and it should give you a good idea.
Riffing on the famous Tchaikovsky’ Sugar Plum Fairy melody, the irreverent new single from the Glasgow four-piece is part jingle, part pop single and partly a massive fuck you to anyone who thinks Tchaikovsky’s status in the musical pantheon makes him immune to parody.
Reminiscent of tongue-in-cheek English punks Toy Dolls and their cover of ‘Nelly the Elephant’, the replay value may be limited but there’s a good-humoured charm to ‘The Nutfucker’.
And if nothing else, it must make a change for Honey and the Herbs frontman Andrew Pattie who spends the rest of his time playing guitar for bucolic Mercury award nominee C Duncan.
Whether ‘The Nutfucker’ encourages you to dig any deeper into home-brewed charm of Honey and the Herbs, an evening with this Glaswegian four-piece is guaranteed never to be dull.
