Spectres at Broadcast, 21/11/15

Spectres come to the notoriously loud Broadcast on a wave of hype for their colossal shoegaze sound.

A match made in heaven then for the Bristol band, who are closing their UK tour tonight in Glasgow, and if this last show is anything to go by it’s been a roaring success.

As promised, Spectres are LOUD. Really loud. So loud that they push the limit between the transcendent and the painful.

For a couple attendees, the volume is too much, but for those who stick with it, they are treated to the hypnotic sound of four musicians highly attuned to each other.

One can tell they are becoming seasoned veterans as a touring unit as this is a perfectly tight set from the Bristol four-piece.

Vocals are largely there as another instrument, but it is the band’s highly inventive rhythm section that keeps things progressing nicely, under the layers and layers of sound from the guitar.

It would be wise to expect big things from this band based on this performance, Spectres have the potential to join the upper echelons of the shoegaze genre along with the masters like My Bloody Valentine and Moon Duo as well as newer UK acts like Hookworms.

One to watch.
