Ciaran Mac’s new single ‘Multicoloured’ is a collection of hip-hop beats and lucid soft jazz over intense, meaningful and well-structured lyrics that flow throughout seamlessly.
The track has a dirty, grimy atmosphere to it, as if you are walking along the streets of Glasgow to a poetic beat, the dark melodies and sharp snaps are assembled together to give an on edge, claustrophobic feel.
The lyrics and harsh accent are what drives this song and its realism captures the essence of a derivative life in the city with lines like, “I’m in a rut interrupting my ain thoughts, could I? Could you fuck, should’ve stuck to the day job,” emphasising Mac’s ability to capture intense moments of inner reflection and merge it with music.
The entire song flows as one long reflection of self and life in Glasgow, with the dark jazzy undertones of the melodies this single proves to be one that really hits hip-hop in its original state of talking about real life and ‘Mulitcoloured’ proves this.
