Dead Man Fall – ‘Beating Heart’

Dead Man Fall manage to produce a very upbeat and catchy indie pop single by using a pop-induced chord sequence and a light, but lively chorus, which gets heads nodding.

‘Beating Heart’ starts with a very steady beat and low-key guitar tones, producing the initial chord sequence in which the rest of the song builds upon, giving it its pop dynamic.

The vocals come through in a static style, reminiscence of 90’s pop music, and this technique establishes the subtle indie atmosphere that is the foundation of the track.

The chorus does away with the static style of vocals and introduces the clear and strong voice of Des McCabe chanting the lyrics, “nothing’s gonna wear you down, no one’s gonna tear you down” giving the song an enlightened euphoric topical element.

Towards the end, an electronic synth introduces an 80’s pop vibe and McCabe ooh-ing subsequently adds to this feeling of nostalgia that the song completely captures.

‘Beating Heart’ is a single that collates a wistful and sentimental feeling connected to past generational pop and indie tracks, but with a modern twist and keeps listeners interested as well as dancing.
