Junebug’s new single, ‘Wild’, produces an eclectic mix of pop rock melodies singed in a country flare with easy-going, but forceful vocals and bold guitar and piano tones.
It begins in an abstract manner, not giving too much away of the suspenseful track, although the introduction of the fierce country-style vocals stabilises the song into a tough off-the-beaten-track record.
The chorus sees quiet piano and guitar get heavier and the use of distortion makes for a rock-infused hoedown and really brings this track to a groove of compelling head swaying.
B-side, ‘Your Flame’, is a little less vigorous; it brings the rock element down and focuses more around the folky sound that this band can produce.
The catchy, steady drumbeat keeps the flow, as it centres on the country vocals and indie style of this laid back track.
The piano adds a dynamic pop element making it a persuasive song to any listener.
This single shows Junebug’s success in demonstrating two similar but varied tracks, one heavier and powerful and the other light and catchy, showing they are capable of pinning down pop rock music infused with country a styling.
