I Am David Laing’s single ‘Marmalade’ is the first to be released by Lonesome Boat Records from his upcoming album, and if it’s anything to go by then the album will be something special.
After working on various solo projects and with different bands Laing has put together his own four-piece as a way to bring his work to life.
He has played stages with artists such as Emeli Sande and Frightened Rabbit, and has recently travelled down to London to play a showcase for Q Magazine.
Although many of his previous songs are about lost love and misery, Laing has put a different spin on ‘Marmalade’.
The upbeat rhythms and catchy melodies, paired with his brutally honest and emotional lyrics, about his latest fling, give us something fresh and exciting.
His passionate vocals are harmonised by his band members, giving the chorus a much bigger and powerful feel.
Laing is experimenting mixing his original folk work with a touch of pop, which is not a bad decision at all.
‘Marmalade’ is much more mature than previous work, and Laing has proved he is much more than just a man with a guitar.
