Froth at Broadcast, 24/1/15

As I stand outside Broadcast digging through my pockets for a lighter I begin to ponder what I am about to witness.

This would not be my first venture in the Frothiverse.

I am certain it will not be the last; I descend that oh, so narrow staircase and accept my fate.

After all, anything can happen in the Frothiverse.

The Frothiverse is expansive and everything it touches shall melt before it; Broadcast has partially melted.

The stage, now overrun by the Frothiverse in all its low-budget sci-fi glory, is transformed into a pulpit fit to worship the great

Eterniturtle; and worship we shall.

I am surrounded by my foamy brethren as Froth begins their sermon.

They open with ‘Rat’; we, the congregation of beautiful burnouts, runts and the generally weird instantly come alive.

Within three-minutes Froth have moulded us to their whim as we scream a refrain of “get out of my flat” back in the general direction of Eilidh McMillan, as she succumbs to what appears to be either an epileptic seizure or the warm embrace of the Eterniturtle.

To witness such a sight is to question the very nature of this event; it doesn’t add up within the context of their records.

On record Froth is a separate entity: an aural representation of a Kurt Vonnegut fever-dream.

On this night, we are baptised by the raw, guttural ferocity that lurks behind their harmless demeanour and strikes to the very core of our souls – as if being assaulted by play-doh.

As Froth rattle through their entire discography our congregation grows larger with every song.

By the time we have reached closers ‘Space Bingo’ and ‘London Girl’, we are finally clean.

As mosh pits break out to the haunting, reverberating sound of a Mecca Bingo crashing into our planet I cannot help but imagine how drab my night could have been.

And like that, it is over; we can return to our lives knowing we have been indoctrinated into something special.

As the pulpit is cleared and our congregation disperses towards bars, dancefloors and bedrooms, I feel cleansed and will dance for the rest of the night and embrace the cataclysmic nature of this world and the realms beyond.

Welcome to the Frothiverse.
