Bob Mould at Oran Mor, 15/11/14

35 years into his career, having been a member of Husker Du and Sugar, appearing on Foo Fighters albums, writing for World Championship Wrestling in the 1990’s and having a very successful solo career, it’s becoming very obvious, Bob Mould just gets it, and tonight he proves that to us on front of a sold out Oran Mor.

Taking to the stage and not hesitating to burst into the classics, Mould, accompanied by Jason Narducy on bass and Jason Wurster on drums, fire straight into two songs from classic Husker Du album Flip Your Wig, before treating us to Sugar song ‘Hoover Dam’.

But then we really are shown a testament to the consistency of Mould’s output, playing to a room filled with fans wearing Husker Du and Sugar t-shirts, you might imagine that the response to newer solo material would be somewhat low, but that’s not the case, with songs from 2014’s Beauty & Ruin and 2012’s Silver Age receiving huge approval from the crowd.

Squeezing 21 songs into 75-minutes, the three-piece don’t really stop for breath, with Wurster thrashing the drums with perfect precision and Narducy flying about the stage without missing a note and of course, the legend himself, Mould playing with such energy, precision and charisma.

The band builds up to a climax of three classic Husker Du songs, ‘Something I Learned Today’, ‘In A Free Land’ and to close it all off, from the legendary Zen Arcade record, the mighty ‘Chartered Trips’.

As the crowd pours out, it is apparent that the no one is left disappointed, Bob Mould is the legend he is for a reason and tonight he shows us just what that reason is.
