Having had Ayr three-piece Polar Bears In Purgatory’s new release for a while, I felt that I’d best do the review upon returning from Reading Festival, where the archetypal pop-punk outfit Blink-182 closed the Main Stage.
PBIP having been making waves around Scotland, with exciting live shows and immense energy in their music; songs like ‘Sick’ from this release will be familiar for anyone who has seen them live recently.
As well as writing melodic punk songs, the band show their sense of humour and grasp of the genre with an 18-second song called ‘Specko’, in which bassist Ewan McCreath shouts “I’ve got four eyes” to a reply of “SPECKO!” a few times.
The three-piece don’t take themselves too seriously, and nail all the clichés, which gives fans a fun listen, as well as some very catchy, well-written songs.
