BRITNEY – BRITNEY [Beef Wellington Enterprises]

From the start, I get the impression that BRITNEY don’t take themselves very seriously and thank f**k for that. BRITNEY. No, I’m not internet shouting Britney Spears. BRITNEY. Who hail from Edinburgh or thereabouts.

Unlike many of their counterparts, BRITNEY succeed in keeping things interesting, most tracks on the album clock in at under a minute, and are short, concise and aggressive.

Comparisons can be drawn to artists such as McLusky, Norma Jean and, at times, the Locust; track titles such as ‘Shan Tribal’, ‘Daddy Magnum’ and ‘Woodpeckers’ reflect the dark humour encompassed in the album.

Killing the album dead with ‘Rigorous Champ Anthem’, arguably the album’s ‘epic’ in comparison with the other tracks, BRITNEY sign off with a twenty-minute long bluesy guitar solo, which in all honesty is the highlight of the album.

There’s the good, the bad and the very ugly in here, however if like your music loud, aggressive and a little bit cheeky, these are the boys for you, every track is full of highs and lows and surprises around every corner.

Clearly BRITNEY are a band who have plenty of potential, longer tracks would be nice though, I’m only just beginning to enjoy a track and BOOM it’s gone.

Quite honestly, it makes the album increasingly difficult to listen to as time goes on, usually I like to listen to an album more than once but I found it incredibly difficult to listen to this at all, every cloud has a silver lining though and this one is very silver indeed.
