Record review: Silver Coast – ‘Believe’

artworks-000069989967-u83jis-t500x500‘Believe’ is the debut single from the Inverness based four-piece Silver Coast, we have seen some great bands from Inverness, however there has been a long gap since we’ve seen anyone raise to the same level of say He Slept On 57 so there is a lot excitement about what the future holds.

‘Believe’ leads us in with atmospheric guitar work, which features extensively on the EP, it would seem that lead singer and guitarist Arron Murry has an undying love of reverb as it is extensive throughout the record but is done so in a masterful way.

When ‘Believe’ does work its way into the first recognisable section we see the first glimpse of Murry’s vocals performance.

Parody aside Murry does not posses the influence of an Invernesian accent, which has been a point of criticism before from bands from the Highlands and possesses a more neutral balance.

Each section of ‘Believe’ is well crafted and holds its own weight compared to the their counterpart sections demonstrating Silver Coats’s strong song writing, drawing on several influences, with Feeder being the most obvious.

I would have liked if there was a little bit more weight behind the track where the guitars seem to lack the punch needed to portray the stadium anthem vibe throughout the track and a little drum re-sampling on some parts wouldn’t have gone a miss but superficial production concerns doesn’t stop the idea that Silver Coast’s aim for epic soundscapes is one that is can be easily achieved in future releases.

When listening to ‘Believe’ I pictured myself hearing it at a festival striking a perfect sound to accompany the long summer days and care free thoughts of euphoria, hopefully with any luck this should be something that comes to materialise should any future releases beckon the same vibe and direction as ‘Believe’, which is a very strong first release from the band who are a breath of fresh air in the Inverness music scene.
