Book Group emerged with a pop rock infused boom back in early 2013, the Edinburgh based band released their debut EP, Homeward Sound, which created buzz throughout the Scottish music scene.
‘Victory Lap’, their second single, hits the ground running, its pop like nature juxtaposes with brooding lyrics, which have the emotive potency to evoke sympathy towards the protagonist in the track who is overwhelmed with abandonment and heartache.
The track is heavily guitar based, with chunky riffs consuming the track, reminiscent of American pop rock bands from the early 2000s.
Book Group has highlighted their talent for writing sophisticated guitar tracks and simple, yet effective drum parts, which are the backbone of the song.
The bass guitar is the beating heart of the track, pounding away keeping pace and pushing the track along.
It is always nice to hear a band singing in their native accent; none of this Americanised twang in the vocals for Book Group, they are pure, giving the track warmth and authenticity.
In ‘Victory Lap’ Book Group has penned a strong single that combines lyrical storytelling and pop rock and gives it a distinctive Scottish vibe.
