Record Review: Heralds of Galactus – Heralds of Galactus

1240587_219526931537581_401948724_nWhat do you get when you mix Bullet for my Valentine with an electronic synthesizer?

What you get is the unique musical styling of Scottish self-proclaimed intergalactic synth-charged delirium musicians, Heralds of Galactus.

The opening of ‘I am Galactus’ has you raising an eyebrow in confusion (it sounds like the theme tune for a class Doctor Who villain) but only for a moment before the guitar kicks in and you realise you didn’t click the wrong link.

The vocals on the track are unique to say the least, but not in a bad way, Road Knight’s voice seems to have a raw and scratchy nature about it and it fits in well with the image Heralds of Galactus are trying to build of themselves.

Lyrically, it’s not the strongest ever written, the constant repetition of “I am Galactus” bores you after the first chorus.

The song, minus the vocals, is similar to Bullet for my Valentine’s ‘The Fight’ but with an edgier and fresher take to it, it’s basically a way of listening to some heavier instrumental music without realising it.

The second track ‘Curse of the Belmonts’ is the stand out track; it has a lot more going on without being over bearing or repetitive, the introduction is enticing and will make you feel energetic, but not pushing you to the point of hyperventilating.

Another thing to take notice of is the lack of ‘touching-up’ on the Knight’s vocals, his voice is different, so why spend time and money to change it and sound like every other band out there, it’s refreshing to see and it shouldn’t work, but it does, and it will be the thing that sets Heralds of Galactus apart from other bands upcoming in this genre.

Overall ‘Curse of the Belmonts’ will be 5 minutes and 34 seconds of your life well spent.
