‘Confessions’, the debut single Glasgow singer songwriter Shambles Miller, is a charmingly amusing affair, something that we have come to expect from one of the city’s best on call support acts.
‘Confessions’ recalls a past relationship, one of those fun while it lasted, never destined to last efforts we’ve all had, and finds Miller recollecting underappreciated Jermaine Clement-esque David Bowie impersonations and sci-fi disagreements while choosing to spin positive on the relationship and not wallow in sorrow.
Musically it’s not going to break any boundaries, it’s a fairly simple acoustic track, but it’s Miller’s endearingly witty lyrics that boost this track as he passes on last messages and confessions like “… so long and thanks for all the sex” and “… I never really liked your mum”.
B-side ‘Pieces’ doesn’t quite have the comical punch but nonetheless it’s a heartwarming depiction of a break up with another strong lyrical display.
It’s possibly a more genuine account of his feelings following the same relationship as the A-side, or maybe it’s not, either way it’s a pleasant listen.
It’s difficult to dislike Shambles Miller, live and on record he’s a well of amusing banter and one-liners, with songs that create a nice get away from the majority of drab acoustic, folk, ‘I’m so Scottish’ singers Glasgow has to offer.
I’m led to believe he’s hosting an open mike night at Vespbar every Sunday, so pop along for a nice wee evening and free pizza.
