It’s a very polished offering from Father Sculptor on ‘Ember’ as the band create an ambitious, progressive sound of their own, without coming across as self-indulgent.
Drowning in fantastic tones and stirring sound-scapes, ‘Ember’ is excellent, working its way from a quiet introduction right up to the real meat of the track and back down again.
It’s a great tease with tension.
Sadly, second track ‘Blue’ fails to live up to expectations.
While it still works tonally, and there are some interesting use of backing vocals buried in the mix, there’s no urgency.
It all sounds too controlled and too restricted.
They take ‘Blue’ in their stride, it’s their most rehearsed track or there’s simply less going on in it.
Whatever it is, there’s something about it that just can’t match the heights of ‘Ember’.
