Record review: Letters – ‘The Halfway House’

The new single from Letters, ‘The Halfway House’, is a joyously upbeat number.

A driving track, full to the brim with catchy grooves, interesting melodic twists and gorgeous instrumentation – ‘The Halfway House’ is a great accomplishment in songwriting.

It all begins with active guitar against passive strings, before things become more energetic with instruments dropping in and out in quick succession.

No-one steps on anyone else’s toes, and the result is a very measured track that is stripped of all its fat, yet still contains depth.

Just as everything dissolves into near silence, Letters slowly rise, building to a coda that ensures that the track ends with a bang.
