Record review: Betatone Distraction – Process Replaces Content

Opener ‘In The Loop’ is a strong first foot forward, it melds goth, punk and rock with the world of electronic music with a deft touch.

Next up is ‘Flog’ that feels equally parts Radiohead and KT Tunstall, while maintaining a stylistic link to the track preceding it.

Is that a lute? Pizzicato strings and glockenspiel take us in a decidedly different direction on ‘Process Replaces Content’, the titular track before the EP finds a resolution in closer ‘Infinite Hotel’ with its harmonic brilliance.

There’s a lot to like on Process Replaces Content, there’s depth on repeated listens, yet simple hooks to remain accessible.

Each and every track has an identity of its own, and not one track feels filler.

It’s an extraordinary achievement by a band destined for great things.
