With a title like R U Sitting Comfortably you’d be inclined to think you’d be in for a mish-mash mess of noise, dissonance and tension – but not from Poor Things who thrash out happy, triumphant punk tracks.
The production of the EP is a little rough – it’s loose and authentic and real.
Altogether it’s a great listen.
The EP begins with ‘Festival’, a jovial and upbeat song full of colour and happiness, featuring a sing-a-long reprise that builds and builds, until the track ends and we’re quickly thrown head first into the next track.
‘The History Society’ opens with metallic harmonics, providing an immediate identity of its own.
All too soon and we’re at the end of the short three minute number, a coda at the end running and looping again and again into nothing.
They then start afresh and with a clean slate on ‘Retreat’, the third and final song.
The down tempo and reflective nature of this track is a stark contrast to the rest of the release.
It’s not the typical sad song, sea of lighters as far as the eye can see.
It’s a slower, deeper song that features a lovely send off at the end that would be worthy of a track in itself.
