Live review: Mr Peppermint, Ye Olde Bong Monster Generator Gig, 23/6/11

This is a bit more thrown together than anything else but it really should be mentioned.

So, after Daryn painted me as an idiot and sexual deviant in burrito related fashion, and Joe took Daryn’s obsession with me to new extremes (read here), we headed down to some abandoned building down towards the Clyde behind Partick train station to catch the second Winning Sperm Party Generator Gig.

The venue is great, falling apart full of graffiti, precarious bricks, perfect for a photo shoot and full of Glasgow’s coolest kids… and the gig itself is short yet sweet. Noise duo Mr Peppermint power through some distorted brilliance as the gagged individuals spill their excellent racket on passers-by.

Ye Olde Bong Monster follow; I missed them at Croc earlier in the year despite being in the room they were playing in, messy night. But if they played a set as short as they do today that maybe explains it, I doubt they were on longer than 10 minutes but we’re working to deadlines here folks, the generator only last so long and this place is not exactly owned property.

Still, the set goes some towards demonstrating Laurie Pitt’s drumming prowess while harsh synth and guitar compliment off to the side, a great contrast to the sunny pop of Fur Hood but nonetheless appreciated.

These generator gigs are definitely a hit, they bring something a little different to proceedings, and drags me out my flat a little earlier. You’ve seen some music now go do something with your evening!

Thanks to WSP for an excellent experience and the same to Joe Quimby for producing a burrito that does exactly what a burrito is supposed to do, destroy you for a good few hours, if it doesn’t draw a sweat it’s not good enough. Check out Glasgow Mega Burrito.
